Geranium Oil

Geraniums (Pelargonium graveolens) has to be one of my favourite flowers, native to South Africa, the oil is pressed from the geranium flowers, leaves and stalks, it has a middle perfumery note.

The distinctive aroma immediately takes me back to my grandmother’s conservatory. I always remember it being such a cheerful place, with all the different geraniums scattered around.

This charming floral essential oil is often compared to Rose but is much more affordable. It has a balancing, cooling and reviving effect on the skin. I also really love the way geranium balances the emotions and is both calming yet uplifting.

Geranium oil has many great properties in aromatherapy but is particularly valued as a balancing oil; geranium is often used to aid the body in balancing its hormones. Therefore, it may help women in particular, with PMS and especially during menopause.

It is also said that the antioxidant properties may help reduce the signs of ageing, scars and blemishes, it is also suitable for all skin types, its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties can also help control acne and its cooling properties can benefit dry and inflamed skin.

You will find this beautiful oil in many of my skincare products, and within my aromatherapy treatments. Currently my favourite morning diffuser blend is:

4 drops Geranium oil

2 drops eucalyptus oil

2 drops of rosemary oil

It’s all thing Geranium
